DUBAI ( in Arabic :دبيّ ) is one of the seventh Emirates forming UAE on the Arabian Peninsula. It is also the larger city of this Emirate. Since XXth Century Dubai is ruled by Sheikh Maktum Bin Rashid Al Maktum, being Prime Minister of the Federation of UAE. Dubai is the 2nd largest Emirate after Abu Dhabi, inhabited by 680 000 residents. Situated in the Persian Gulf, south-west of Sharja and north-east of Abu Dhabi. It is also one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
The first pieces of information for the existence of the city are from 1799. In the beginning of the XVIIIth Century Al Abu Falasa settles in Dubai, dependent to Abu Dhabi by that time. In 1833 the Al Maktum Dynasty occupies the city without any resistance of the local people. From that time on Dubai manages to fight its independence.
